What Drives the Price of a Roofing Job

Equal-sized roofs can end up with very different prices. The layers beneath the surface and how easy the roof is to reach often count as much as what goes on top. These are the things we weigh before we put a figure on paper.

We measure and look over your roof before writing anything down, and the written estimate is always free. Financing is available through Service Finance Company, subject to credit approval.

Size and slope of the roof
The square footage decides how much material goes up. A steeper slope means more safety gear and a slower pace, so labor rises.
Your choice of material
Asphalt shingle, clay or concrete tile and low-slope membranes each come with their own material and labor costs. Tile can frequently be lifted and relaid over fresh underlayment, which changes the numbers compared with replacing everything.
Shape of the deck and underlayment
Sheathing that has gone soft or come apart must be replaced before new roofing goes down. The full amount only shows once the old roof is removed, so the estimate spells out how any extra decking would be priced.
Old layers to strip
Two layers of old shingles take more labor and more disposal than one.
Flashing, vents and openings
Every chimney, skylight, plumbing vent and wall joint needs its own careful flashing, so the more a roof has, the more detail work it takes.
Permits and code requirements
A reroof needs a permit and an inspection, and some jobs have to meet California energy code rules on roof reflectivity. We pull the permit and include the cost in your estimate.

Roofing Services for Every Stage of Your Roof

Most of our work is about stretching the years out of a roof: roof inspections, roof repair, roof leak repair and gutters that move water off and away from your home. When a roof is past saving, we handle roof replacement in asphalt shingle, tile and flat roofing, plus storm damage repair and commercial roofing for small buildings. We are a licensed roofing contractor, CSLB 1092407 (C-39), we are insured, and we hold CertainTeed ShingleMaster status, so the same standard applies to a single cracked tile as to a full tear-off.

  • Roofer in a safety harness kneels on a dark asphalt shingle roof, fitting new shingles around a black pipe boot, with a pry bar resting nearby on an overcast day

  • Roofer in a safety harness photographs missing and lifted asphalt shingles near a roof valley, with a blue tarp, new shingle bundle and nail gun nearby

    Hail Damage Repair

  • Roofer in a harness steps from an aluminum ladder onto a stucco home's underlaid roof with tile stacks at the ridge, a dump trailer in the driveway

  • Roofer in tool belt torching seams of modified bitumen membrane on a flat commercial roof, with a membrane roll beside him and a parking lot below

    Commercial Roofing

Repairs, scheduled upkeep and replacement for low-slope business roofs, planned so the membrane you already have lasts as long as it reasonably can.

  • Roofer in a safety harness working on a low-slope roof of a stucco ranch home, with rolls of roofing membrane on the lawn, a ladder, and a dump trailer in the driveway

    Flat Roofing

Repairs, recoating and full replacement for flat and low-slope roofs, with drainage and seams given the attention that keeps water moving off.

About Roofing Carson

Roofing Carson looks after homes here and in the neighboring South Bay and Harbor communities. Many of the houses we climb onto have been reroofed once or twice, often with patches added in different decades, and reading those layers carefully is where good advice begins.

In our view, the most valuable roof is usually the one already on your home, kept in good repair. Steady sun dries out shingles and underlayment, and salt air from the coast works on exposed metal, so a little upkeep goes a long way. We offer service in English and Spanish, and we are glad to talk through your roof by phone before anyone sets up a ladder.

What to Expect, Step by Step

Each stage has a clear handoff, so you always know who is on your roof, what they are doing and when it will wrap up.

  1. 1

    A call and a visit

Describe what you have noticed, whether a ceiling stain, a slipped tile or a sagging gutter, and we arrange a visit at a time that suits you. On site we check the surface, the flashing and the gutters, and the attic whenever it is accessible.

  2. 2

    Findings and a written estimate

You get photos and a line-item estimate. If repair makes sense, that is what we recommend, along with any upkeep that would help the roof last.

  3. 3

    Permit and scheduling

For replacements and larger repairs, we pull the permit and plan a start date around the forecast, since winter rain is the season to avoid leaving a roof open.

  4. 4

    The work and the cleanup

Your property is protected before work begins. At the end of each day the roof is secured and the yard is cleared of debris and nails.

  5. 5

    Final walk-through

Once the city inspection is complete, we walk the finished roof with you and point out what to keep an eye on over the years.

How We Work on Your Home

A roof that gets looked after usually outlasts one that gets ignored until it leaks. Our job is to find the small things early and fix them properly.

  1. 01

    Repair before replacement

If a section of flashing, a few shingles or a run of cracked tile is the real problem, we say so. A new roof only comes up when the deck, underlayment or overall wear makes repair a poor use of your money.

  2. 02

    Photos of what we find

After every inspection you see what we saw: lifted shingle edges, rusted pipe collars, worn mortar at the ridge, granules collecting in the gutters. You decide with the evidence in front of you.

  3. 03

    Written, line-item estimates

Each estimate lists the work in plain terms, from tear-off and decking to underlayment, flashing and haul-away. Nothing gets added on the job without a conversation first.

  4. 04

Care for the finish and the yard

We cover plantings, protect walls and windows below the eaves, and run a magnet over the lawn and driveway at the end of each day. The details at the edges, like drip edge and ridge lines, get the same attention as the field of the roof.

  5. 05

    Help with insurance claims

We work directly with your insurance claim, documenting the damage and walking the adjuster through it. The adjuster makes the coverage decision; we make sure the roof is described accurately.

Our Service Area

Our crews cover all of Carson, plus nearby West Carson, Torrance, Gardena, Lomita and Long Beach. Homeowners in Compton, Signal Hill, Willowbrook, West Rancho Dominguez and East Rancho Dominguez are on our regular routes as well.

Answers to Questions Homeowners Ask Us

Something not covered here? (310) 982-2274

Is my roof better off repaired or replaced?

We weigh three things: how old the roof is, how the deck and underlayment are holding up, and whether the trouble sits in one area or runs across the whole surface. A handful of bad shingles or a single tired flashing joint is usually a repair. Curling everywhere, bare shingles or a soft deck lean toward replacement. The photos we take let you judge it with us.

Is there a charge for an inspection or estimate?

There is not. We inspect the roof and write up the estimate at no cost. You receive photos of our findings and a plain list of the work we suggest, and you owe us nothing either way.

Will you work with my insurance company on a claim?

We will. We work directly with your insurance claim, photograph the damage and can join the adjuster on the roof if you want us there. Coverage is your insurer's call; ours is to show the roof's condition as it really is.

Does a new roof come with a warranty?

Qualifying roofs can carry a CertainTeed manufacturer limited warranty. When we review your estimate, we go over whether your roof qualifies and what the warranty covers.

Can I finance the work?

Yes. Financing is available through Service Finance Company, subject to credit approval, and we are happy to go over it while we review your estimate.

What lifespan should I expect from a roof here?

With sensible care, an asphalt shingle roof typically gives about twenty to twenty-five years. Clay and concrete tile can go much longer, though the underlayment below wears out first and may need to be replaced while the same tile goes back on. Periodic inspections and timely small repairs help both kinds reach the long end of that span.

How much will the job disturb my household?

Roofing makes noise, but we keep the rest of the impact small. Plantings and walls are covered, the roof is closed up each evening, and nails and debris are picked up every day. On a typical home, a reroof is done in a few working days.

¿Pueden atenderme en español?

Sí. You can work with us in English or Spanish from your first call to the final walk-through.
